Challenge

How can we create a fast, stable, and user-friendly POS for cashiers with varying tech skills?

  • Conducted in-depth research with potential users to understand their needs.
  • Designed an inclusive UI that accommodates users of all ages and backgrounds.
  • Crafted a well-balanced learning curve to ensure smooth onboarding and usability.
  • Integrated step-by-step tutorials within the onboarding process.
  • Provided an in-app and website help module for easy access to support.
  • Collaborated with the sales team to assist users during onboarding and after-sales.

Research

Interviews & Observations

Our team conducted interviews and close-up observations with some of the SMEs business to understand the motivation behind their daily transactions task.

Key user stories

As a cashier, I need a system that is fast and simple, so I can process transactions quickly without distractions.
As a store owner, I want to track sales and inventory in real-time without needing extensive training.

Competitor Analysis

  • Many competitor apps were built for larger businesses, making them too complex for SMEs.
  • High pricing and rigid subscription models made them less accessible for small businesses.
  • Most lacked an intuitive onboarding experience, creating friction for first-time users.

Design Approach

User Flow Simplicity

Every transaction was engineered to require as few steps as possible. By minimizing unnecessary inputs and automating repetitive tasks, cashiers could complete sales quickly without distractions. The UI was designed for efficiency-first interactions, ensuring that even new users could operate it with minimal training.

Offline First Design

Since SMEs often operate in environments with unstable internet connections, the system was built with offline functionality. Transactions, inventory updates, and receipts could still be processed without connectivity, syncing automatically once the internet was restored. This ensured uninterrupted operations, even in remote areas.

Scalability

Whether for a small café or a multi-branch retail chain, the system was designed to be flexible and scalable. Core features like sales tracking and inventory management worked seamlessly across different business sizes. Modular components allowed businesses to expand functionality as needed, ensuring that the POS could grow alongside them.

Next Steps

Planned Iterations

  • Loyalty Program → Reward repeat customers & boost retention.
  • Analytics Dashboard → Deeper insights for smarter business decisions.

Our POS will evolve with business needs, ensuring adaptability & scalability. Future updates may include:

  • More payment options
  • Advanced inventory tracking
  • Seamless multi-store integration
